interserver reviews

InterServer is a budget hosting provider with great web hosting options for scalability and growth. Their plans come with a wealth of features meant to boost performance and ensure all the tools you need to secure a strong online presence.

InterServer Company Overview

InterServer is a New Jersey-based hosting provider that was founded by Mike Lavrik and John Quaglieri in 1999. Being in the game for the better part of two decades, InterServer specializes in shared, VPS, dedicated and colocation hosting solutions. The company operates their own private datacenters with a team of on-site experts available 24/7.

InterServer Plans & Pricing

InterServer doesn’t target one specific audience, which means that their hosting plans are configured to meet a variety of needs.

Shared hosting

InterServer’s Standard shared hosting plan costs $5 per month, and includes hosting for unlimited sites, unlimited storage space, unlimited data transfer, unlimited FTP accounts, unlimited email accounts and unlimited MySQL databases. If you decide to sign up for 3 years for this plan, the price drops to $4/month.

Apart from the standard features included with this unmetered shared hosting account, the plan is configured to include other useful features like free CloudFlare CDN, free SSL certificates, quick install scripts, guaranteed mail delivery, spam filtering, weekly backups.

InterServer rolls out a managed WordPress account as well for $8/month (or $6.40/month if you sign up for 3 years). This plan offers hosting for a single WordPress site, but builds on the standard shared hosting plan with SSD caching servers, RAID 10 storage, CloudFlare CDN, free SSL certificates, etc. It also includes security features (daily virus scan, free Hacked WordPress Cleanup, daily backups, automatic updates) and speed optimization features meant to boost your site’s performance.

Another shared hosting plan is InterServer’s ASP.NET web hosting, which also costs $5 per month and comes with unlimited everything, except unlimited domain hosting, as the account allows hosting for 20 websites only. The plan supports Windows-specific frameworks and programming languages as well as WordPress specific features (easy WordPress installer, support for any plugin, automatic updates, etc.)

VPS hosting

InterServer provides both Windows-based and Linux-based VPS plans. Windows-based VPS plans start at $10 monthly, while Linux versions start at $6 monthly.

VPS accounts are set up instantly, are on a monthly based pricing, which allows you to cancel anytime, and provide full control (root or admin) over your account. You have the option to add either cPanel or Direct Admin as your control panel if you don’t like InterServer’s VPS control panel, however, these are available only as upgrades.

With InterServer’s VPS plans you can choose from several OS options including Windows 2016, Windows 2012 R2, CentOS 7, etc., and you have access to several scripts and apps. Redundant storage, backups and snapshots make sure your data stays safe.

In terms of resources, you can choose your own VPS configuration up to 4 cores CPU, 16 384 MB, 400 GB storage, and 16 TB transfer.

Dedicated hosting

At InterServer, you’ll find managed dedicated server solutions starting at only $59/month for an atom dedicated server. Like with their VPS plans, you can configure your own dedicated server by choosing the CPU type (Intel Dual-Core Atom, Xeon E3-1230, or 2 x Six-Core E5-2620), memory (up to 32 GB), primary hard drive storage (up to 6 TB SATA or 1 TB SSD), secondary hard drive, bandwidth options (up to 100 Tb – 1 GB port – transfer), IP options (5 Vlan IPs or 13 Vlan IPs), and OS options (both Windows and Linux versions available).

Reseller hosting

Reseller hosting options at InterServer start at only $19.95 and spread over four plan options, with the highest tier costing $69.95. Resources range from 80 GB to 240 GB disk space and 500 GB to 2000 GB monthly bandwidth.

InterServer doesn’t charge any setup fees and client management is made easy through the popular Web Host Manages (WHM).

Unlimited domain hosting, one-click scripts and MySQL on SSD drives are features included with each plan. Unique IP addresses and private DNS servers are available for $3/mo and $5/mo, respectively.

Colocation hosting

InterServer offers colocation hosting for businesses that don’t want to or don’t think it’s feasible for them to keep servers in-house. Colocation plans start at $125 for a single server (1u), 10mbps on 100mb port, 5 IPs, and $25 per additional u.

All plans feature 24/7 biometric access to your servers, 100% power uptime guarantee (UPS and generator backup), 24/7 phone and email support.

Optional extras like cPanel or DirectAdmin control panel, OS install, system administration, etc. are available for a fee.

InterServer have a well-trained, in-house support team, so you’re unlikely to experience any problems with their support.

InterServer Pros & Cons

Although InterServer hasn’t gone mainstream yet, their services come with a lot of advantages and very few drawbacks. Here’s what we liked about their service and here’s where they can still improve:

Pros

  • Privately owned and operated data centers;
  • Good performance;
  • No server overloading (utilizing only 50% of available resources);
  • Transparency (clear SLA and transparent TOS);
  • Guaranteed email delivery;
  • Price-lock guarantee (same annual renewal rates for the lifetime of the account);
  • Easily scalable plans.

Cons

  • cPanel not available for free with all plans.

Conclusion

InterServer is a good place to host and grow your website. Their consistency in delivering reliable hosting services has kept them going for almost two decades now. If you’re looking to sign up with a privately-owned hosting company that breaks away from run-of-the-mill EIG hosting services, InterServer should be on your radar.
